Approbation of Pocket Guide for Construction Materials Sector Specialists, EaP GREEN Program’s RECP Demonstration Component
In 2016, as a part of EaP GREEN Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) program funded by the EU, RECP Technology Pocket Guide for specialists working in construction materials sector and roads construction materials production was prepared and published in national languages of the six EaP countries.
To promote wide distribution and use of the pocket guide in EaP countries on-line seminar is organized for specialists working in the enterprises as well as organizations of these branches in the EU Eastern Partnership countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
On-line seminar shall be organized and conducted by the Belarusian Center for Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production, established as a result of the EaP GREEN RECP Demonstration component implementation led by UNIDO in 2014 – 2017.
Training on Financial Analysis of Investment Project Scenarios with Application of COMFAR (Computer Model for Feasibility Analysis and Reporting) software has started today on October 23,2017 in Tbilisi. This 5 day training is organized within the framework of UNIDO supported RECP Demonstration Project in Georgia and is intended to build capacity in Georgia in investment projects preparation and financial appraisal the RECP project in Georgia.
This training course is intended for the representatives of Georgian banks, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs), consulting companies, governmental and non-governmental sector representatives which are involved in identification, formulation, evaluation and promotion of investment projects; students with respective educational background such as accounting, economics, financial management, projects management, etc.
The Webinar- Presentation-Training of the Recourse Efficiency and Cleaner Production Pocket Guides for Dairy & Chemicals Manufacturing Sectors took place at the Georgian Technical University on July 4, 2017. The webinar was organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)- led Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) Demonstration Project in Georgia. The Training brought together more than 40 Georgian experts working in the dairy and chemicals manufacturing sectors, the representatives of the business companies, the professors and students of the Georgian Technical University. The International Expert Mr. Johannes Fresner conducted the Training from Minsk (Belarusian State University). The participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova will also took part in the Training. The participation in the training was also possible on-line and several Georgian experts used this opportunity.
During the training the pocket guides for the dairy industry and chemical processing were presented to participants. The first part of the training covered resource efficient and cleaner production in dairy industry processes, generation of waste, emissions and water discharge. Such best practices as optimization of water utilization , minimization of water discharges and energy efficiency were closely discussed.
The second part of the training was devoted to the chemicals manufacturing sector and covered the following issues: responsible production and chemicals handling,resource efficient and cleaner production in chemical industry;hierarchical approach for risk reduction; best industrial practices and technologies in chemical industry. At the end of the training the participants were given opportunity to ask questions.

UNIDO- led Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) Demonstration Projectin Georgia is a part of the program “Greening Economies in the European Union’s Eastern Neighbourhood” (EaP GREEN). The programme assists six countries of the European Union Eastern Neighbourhood Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) in progressing faster towards a green economy framework. The EaP GREEN programme is funded by the European Union and by the Development Bank of Austria and Government of Slovenia and it is jointly implemented by international organizations – OECD, UNECE, UNEP and UNIDO.

Training in Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production Pocket Guides for dairy, chemicals and construction materials manufacturing sectors was organized on 24th March, 2017 at the Georgian Technical University (GTU). The training was conducted by Mr. Johannes Fresner, international RECP expert. Students and professors of the Department of Environmental Engineering and Ecology and RECP national experts participated in the training.
National Project Coordinator in Georgia Mr. Malkhaz Adeishvili presented UNIDO Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Demonstration Project. The international expert introduced to the audience three Pocket Guides prepared under the EaP GREEN Program addressing RECP approaches and practices in dairy, chemicals and construction materials manufacturing processes. The Pocket Guides have been prepared by international experts in English. The documents will be translated into Georgian language and they will be available for business companies, RECP experts and broader group of people interested in resource efficient and cleaner production.
The training was covered by Georgian TV media. Interviews with Mr. Malkhaz Adeishvili and Mr. Johannes Fresner were broadcasted on a number of TV channels and published through internet magazines.

Agenda Training in the EaPGreen Pocket Guides
On March 22-23, 2017 UNIDO Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Demonstration Project in Georgia organized training for Georgian experts and companies involved in the RECP project on using measurement equipment for resource efficient and cleaner production assessments in manufacturing processes. The training was conducted by Mr. Johannes Fresner, International RECP Expert.
On March 22, 2017 before noon in-class training was organized in the office of the Energy Efficiency Center (EECG). After the in class training and on March 23, 2017 the trainees and the international expert visited selected companies for application of the equipment in particular industrial processes.

Final Review training was organized in Tbilisi in the Energy Efficiency Center Georgia (EEC) on 26 and 27 April , 2016. Eight national experts, international expert and the RECP Project Coordinator participated in the workshop. The national experts presented the results of RECP assessments undertaken in selected companies, including the RECP indicators (resource use, environmental pollution, product output, resource intensity, and pollution intensity), opportunities for improving the resource use efficiency, economic and environmental performance of the companies. The international expert provided comments to the national experts for developing the final RECP reports.April
Second round of training for national experts in RECP Methodology and Technique was organized on 29 June – 3 July in Tbilisi in the office of EEC Georgia. 10 local experts selected participated in the classroom training on 29 June – 1 July 2015. The training was provided by international expert Mr. Jaap von der Meer. The training covered first six modules of the RECP course including the following:
- RECP concept and Practice;
- RECP assessment;
- Motivation, Commitment and Team;
- RECP baseline and indicators;
- Initial assessment;
- Detailed assessment.
National experts passed a test in RECP methodology and technique.
Following the classroom training the national experts visited selected demonstration companies for introducing themselves to the companies’ managements and undertaking first RECP observations in the enterprises. The national experts were coached by the International Expert and the project National Coordinator during the visits.

The international and national experts visited one of the demonstration companies – JSC “Sarini” in Rustavi city on 26 February, 2015, The experts and the management of the company discussed opportunities for implementing the measures identified in the RECP assessment for improving the company’s economic and environmental performance.
